I’m Rachael Dinnis, an award-wining designer based in the West Country.
Originally from the Devon I went to London to work as a Junior Designer after graduating from art college.
Having been lucky enough to work at some great studios where I contributed to their creative concepts, crafted typography and learnt the attention to detail needed to make things absolutely right. I arrived in London as a junior and left as a senior designer, picking up design awards along the way.
During this course, I collaborated with two fellow students to take on a live project for a start-up called Fotostax. Throughout the project, I gained hands-on experience in the complete digital product design process, using industry-standard methods and tools. This included design thinking, user research and personas, UI design, and creating high-fidelity prototypes.
The bootcamp taught me about the different development lifecycles. We were introduced to wireframing, user stories and coding. The highlight of the course was working with data analysts and digital marketers on a collaborative project to reimagine Facebook for the future.
During the course, I've learned about the entire product design process. This included conducting business and user research, content design, creating UI wireframes using Figma's grid system and style guide, performing usability and A/B testing, understanding conversion tracking, and presenting product pitches to business stakeholders. The course involved working on diverse projects with practical exercises every week.
This online course gave me an introduction to the scope and significance of UX design, how to apply my existing skills to UX, and how to recognise good and bad experience design when evaluating design.

2021 – PRESENT
Working on a range of mainly web projects with clients as well as studios, including Shine Creative.
2019 – 2021
Joined Shine Creative to help build their Exeter studio I was responsible for a small team and client liaison. Working on a range of projects which includes web, print and packaging.
2018 – 2019
A regular freelancer working on a range of projects which includes websites, internal communications projects and print projects.
2002 – 2018
After deciding to strike out on my own in 2002, Yellow Pages became my first client. Since then I’ve gone on to work with many household brands such as Aviva, Heineken and Vodafone as well as a handful of start-up companies.
I help them to shape, plan and deliver their communications. This includes creative concepts, campaigns to engage their employees, defining a brand look and feel, web and mobile design and social content including video and animation.
1994 – 2002
At Lippa Pearce I added more analytical thinking to my creativity, turning business insights into creative ideas. I ran my own team with responsibility for budgeting, new business generation and creative direction. I won awards for branding, packaging and literature design. I set up Lippa Pearce’s digital capability working on websites and animated videos. Here I discovered my ongoing love of motion graphics and was invited to become a D&AD design judge.
1993 – 1994
Joined this award-winning agency as a senior designer working directly with clients such as Rimmel cosmetics and Dulux. I also mentored the junior designers.
1988 – 1993
This is what I consider my first ‘real’ job. Working at this award-winning consultancy was where I learnt the drive for seeking out the big idea, the craft for creating stunning typography and the attention to detail needed to make things absolutely right. I was part of the team that worked on the Railfreight brand identity, creating Royal Mail stamps and even launched a new locomotive, the class 60. I entered as a junior and exited as a senior designer, picking up design awards along the way.
1987 – 1988
Moving from the West Country my first job was with a Portuguese design company, here I learnt how to work as a team and negotiate office politics. I didn’t stay long; I think something was lost in translation.
